This
artwork is titled the “Last Supper”. It was created in 1495, by the famous artist
“Leonardo da Vinci”. This piece was created to represent Jesus and his 12 disciples.
The painting is placed In Santa Maria delle Grazie. Jesus is
the focus point in the piece and the artist did the intentionally. The artist used an oil/tempera mix and applied
it to a dry wall to create the look. The medium consists of Tempera, Gesso. With
the measures of 460 cm × 880 cm (180 in × 350 in), the “Last Supper”, stretches
from wall to wall.
Analysis :
In the painting the
artist used warm colors. He also used contrast of shading as the picture is
light on one side and dark on the other. The me draw are all aligned with the focus
point of Jesus. The window are also aligned. The quality of this wo is amazing although
it is stated tat it is unfinished. I ca see where the artist may have wanted to
add some extra repetition for detail.
Interpretation:
With this painting I think
the artist was getting in touch with his religion and expression it through
this painting of Jesus and his disciples. In the bible, the story of “The Last
Supper “, is when Jesus announced that someone betrayed him. Maybe, in Leonardo da Vinci’s life this story
was important to him.
Judgment:
The craftsmanship of
this paint is rough but, its roughness adds to the story behind it. The idea of
this work was completely expressed, and I feel as if the story was completely
betrayed. In the painted the artist detailed the men faces, which added to this.
The painting is important to me because growing up in my family this painting is
hung up in every family member home. Throughout history this painting as moved
many and will continue to live on.
